Too Big, Too Small, Just Right: Samsung's Galaxy S10 Proves More Durable Than its S10+ & S10e Counterparts
Overall, SquareTrade finds durability of Samsung S10 series mirrors its predecessors and latest iPhones
March 11, 2019 – San Francisco
This week, Samsung introduced three new Galaxy S10 phones at various price points, and SquareTrade, an Allstate company and highly rated protection plan provider trusted by over 70 million customers, tested the all-glass designs to determine their durability against competitors and previous models.
In a series of “DropBot” tests, SquareTrade found that all three of the S10 models are no match for concrete and crack on the first drop, just like the Galaxy S9 and iPhone X models. The Galaxy S10e was especially susceptible when dropped from six-feet on both its front and back. On the first face-down drop, its screen malfunctioned rendering it unusable. On its first back-down drop, it suffered a shattered camera lens and its flash stopped working.
The Galaxy S10+ also shattered on single face-down and back-down drops. However, it continued to function—though loose glass made use somewhat perilous. The S10 performed best, cracking front and back after single face-down and back-down drops, but it remained completely functional.
Consumers can check out the full results of the DropBot tests here.
“The new Samsung Galaxy S10 phones are incredible, beautiful machines, but our tests found their new AMOLED screens are still prone to damage when dropped. One thing holds true—all-glass designs, no matter the cost of the phone or how sleek its profile, are highly susceptible to damage,” said Jason Siciliano, vice president, global creative director at SquareTrade. “With the new Galaxy Fold scheduled to release in April, we look forward to testing its durability—including how the foldable design with its hefty price tag compares to traditional smartphone durability.”
SquareTrade knows life moves fast and device durability is important. They recommend using screen protectors and phone cases in addition to having a protection plan. For more information on protection plans for today’s most popular smartphones, please visit: www.SquareTrade.com.
